Patient Guide

To ensure your visit and procedures go smoothly, we’ve outlined helpful preparation tips and questions to ask. Please review the instructions below before your appointment.

    • Make sure that you have all the necessary paperwork with you, including your Qatar ID or passport, insurance card, referral letters, laboratory tests results, etc.
    • Please arrive at West Bay Medicare at least fifteen minutes before your appointment.
    • Upon your arrival, please check-in at WBM reception so that your visit may be recorded into our system.
    • During your initial visit, your doctor will take the time to understand your health needs. You may be asked about:
      •     Your current medications
      •     Your medical history
      •     Any previous consultations you’ve done
      •     Treatments or procedures you’ve undergone
    • Your doctor will also discuss your current symptoms, perform a physical examination, and provide a diagnosis. Based on your condition, a personalized treatment plan will be recommended.
    • If a procedure is required and can be performed immediately, it may take place during your first appointment. However, depending on the nature and duration of the treatment, it may be scheduled for a later date.
    • Please note that each clinic at West Bay Medicare may have its own specific protocols. If you have any questions or need clarification before your visit, feel free to contact us directly.
  • At West Bay Medicare, we encourage you to take an active role in your health. Our doctors are here to listen, support, and guide you.
Asking the right questions can empower you to better understand your condition and actively participate in your treatment journey.

Consider asking your doctor the following questions:

    • What is my diagnosis, and how might it impact my daily life?
    • What are the possible causes of this condition?
    • What can I do to prevent this from happening again?
    • Are there any warning signs or symptoms I should monitor?
    • What treatment options are available, and which one do you recommend?
    • What is the purpose of my medication, and what does it contain?
    • Will I need a follow-up visit? If so, when should it be scheduled?
    • Is my condition contagious, and should I take any precautions to protect others?
    • Do I need surgery? If so, are there different surgical approaches available?
    • What are the potential benefits and risks associated with this surgery?
    • Fasting Requirements: If you're undergoing tests for glucose or cholesterol, fasting is typically required for at least 10 hours before your test.
    • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water prior to your appointment to help maintain healthy blood pressure and make the blood draw easier. After your test, a light and healthy snack is recommended if needed.
    • Medication: Continue taking your regular medications unless your doctor advises otherwise. Inform our staff of all medications and supplements you are taking.
    • Dress Comfortably: Wear loose sleeves or short sleeves to allow easy access to your arm.
    • Stay Calm: Try to remain relaxed before and during the procedure. Elevated stress levels can affect certain test results. If you're uncomfortable with needles, it may help to close your eyes and focus on deep, steady breathing.
    • After the Test: You may remove the bandage approximately one hour after your blood draw. Mild bruising or tenderness at the puncture site is normal and should resolve on its own.

If you have any questions about fasting or test preparation, please contact us prior to your appointment.

  • To ensure the best possible imaging results, please review the following preparation guidelines before your radiology appointment:

    • You may be asked to remove or adjust your clothing to expose the area being examined. For certain procedures, you will be provided with a medical gown to wear during the scan.
    • All metallic items, including jewelry, eyeglasses, hearing aids, and hair accessories, should be removed prior to the exam, as they can interfere with image quality.
    • The scan itself typically takes just a few minutes. During the procedure, you’ll need to remain still, and in some cases, the technologist may ask you to hold your breath briefly to prevent image distortion.
    • If you receive a contrast medium, it's important to drink plenty of water after the exam to help flush it out of your system.
    • If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please inform your doctor or technologist before the examination, as some imaging tests may not be recommended during pregnancy.

If you have any questions about your upcoming radiology exam or need specific preparation instructions, don’t hesitate to contact our team ahead of your appointment.

  • At West Bay Medicare, our goal is to ensure you feel informed, supported, and safe throughout the entire process.

    Before Your Surgery
    • Once your surgery is scheduled, you may be asked to undergo a pre-surgery assessment, which could include:
      •     Blood tests
      •     Imaging studies (such as X-rays or ultrasounds)
      •     ECG or other evaluations depending on your health status

This allows your care team to assess your overall health and plan your surgery accordingly.

      To prepare:

    • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery, unless your doctor gives you different instructions.
    • Remove all jewelry, acrylic nails, hairpieces, makeup, and watches before your arrival.
    • Stop smoking as early as possible if you are undergoing general anesthesia, as smoking can impact lung function and recovery.
    • Follow your doctor’s dietary instructions, which may include eating light meals the day before surgery.
    • If you have diabetes, work with your doctor to maintain stable blood sugar levels prior to surgery.
    • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your procedure.
  • On the Day of Surgery
    • You will be provided with a medical gown to wear during the procedure.
    • Your surgeon will meet with you to review the surgical process and answer any last-minute questions.
    • Your anesthesiologist will remain with you throughout the procedure to monitor your vital signs and ensure your comfort and safety.
